According to Rand Paul, the government is downplaying the risk of Ebola in the US. “This thing is incredibly contagious,” Paul said. “People are getting it, fully gowned, masked, and must be getting a very tiny inoculum and they’re still getting it. And then you lose more confidence because they’re telling you stuff that may not be exactly valid and they’re downplaying it so much that it doesn’t appear that they’re really being honest about it.” Health experts and government officials have said over and over the risk is there, but it should not spread with the precautions that are being made. However, if it can spread, as Paul said, with people fully gowned and masked, then it can sure spread on an airplane, in a store, in a restaurant, in schools. I fully understand the reasoning for not wanting the American public to panic. We shouldn't panic yet, because so far it has been contained rather well. However, we do need to be educated on the disease in the event that it starts spreading more than anticipated. And hospitals need to be prepared in the case of an outbreak. Some say that those spreading fear are doing so with the election in mind, as to discredit the efforts being made by the Democratic party. However, it is a real threat, and will continue to be until the virus is no longer spreading. Another major issue is sealing the borders. As long as our borders are open, and the only screening is temperature reading (which can be masked with pain relievers), then we are vulnerable to infected persons coming in from other countries and causing an outbreak. “Is this going to be a terrible thing that runs throughout the United States, I think nobody knows,” Paul said on Thursday. “But it is a very dangerous situation that the president ought to be a little more focused on and everyone shouldn’t be out spouting platitudes about hey we don’t want anybody’s feelings to be hurt so we’re going to let everybody continue to travel as if nothing’s going on.” So is the government downplaying the issue or just simply telling us how it is, and this will soon pass with few being infected in the US? I would love to hear your opinions! Source: MSNBC Daily
